A search engine is a program crafted to enable users to explore the vast information available on the World Wide Web. Its primary function is to retrieve information efficiently, requiring minimum time and effort from users. This is achieved by allowing users to input specific keywords or phrases, following which, the search engine compiles and returns a list of items that match the said keywords or phrases. It is noteworthy that search engines do not generate information; they merely retrieve pages related to keywords or other search terms. Google, Bing, and Yahoo! Search are some of the well-known search engines utilized worldwide.
Portal
A portal is a restricted area on the internet that serves as a gateway to the vast array of information available on the World Wide Web. In order to gain entry into a portal, one must enter a unique URL and a set of login credentials comprising a username and password. These personal details serve as a barrier, ensuring that only authorized individuals are granted access to the content within the portal. Well-known examples of portals include facebook.com, gmail.com, and twitter.com.
